THE ST FRANCIS RIVER GREAT CIRCLE LAKE ROUTE

Highlights

The Trails

  1. Paddle 19 miles of Lake Wappapello Greenville landing to Asher Creek landing.
  2. Hike 8 mile through the University Forest to the intersection with the OT Wappapello Section.
  3. Hike 16 mile segment between NOBO Mile 3.5 and mile 19.8 of the Wappapello Section of The Ozark Trail.
  4. Hike 1.3 miles on the Greenville spur trail
  5. The Hike and Paddle can be done in reverse order.

Camp anywhere along the Wappapello Section, in the University Forest, and on the lake shore. No permit is required.

This is a self outfitted float. Lake Wappapello Lake is floatable year round.

Most of the traffic you will see on the lake is recreational. And most of this traffic will be fishermen. Watch out for their wakes. Keep your bow pointed into the oncoming wave and make sure your gear is secured and boat balanced. At night, be sure to have the required white navigation light clearly displayed. If you see a boat approaching at night, it wouldn't hurt to get the flashlights out and make sure they can see you. Also, you can use a whistle or an air horn to signal.

NOTE: The Hike and Paddle can be extended to include the St. Francis River below Sam A. Baker State Park.
